When it comes to summer dressing, for me less really isn’t more. Being abroad is a different story but sometimes I just feel way too exposed in the city, wearing just a tank and shorts. I like keeping my internal body temperature below physically boiling, but I also personally feel chicer when I’m a little more covered. Let alone comfortable.
So here are ten of my favourite shirts on the market right now, whether tried and tested or obsessed over. All of them just do something right.
Usually I would argue that a denim shirt in a summer shirt roundup is blasphemy. However, The Row have earned a worthy place with this blue linen chambray number. I am a denim freak, being particularly fond of denim on denim especially. Being able to wear denim and not boil throughout summer is very attractive to me. Wear over a white t shirt and white cotton trousers, with sharp black accessories to contrast the floatiness.
A Linen Chambray Shirt unbuttoned over a low scoop tank, that is tucked into a white wide-leg denim. Topped off with brown leather ballerinas, a black bag and statement belt. Everyone needs one. If you don’t have one, you don’t know what you’re missing. A classic, clean white shirt. Toteme does a great shirt, the price is not crazy but the quality still shines through. My current fixation is tucked into black tailoring, a few buttons undone with a black lace cami poking through underneath. Chic and easy.
Style Note:
Nili Lotan Gaia Silk Black Shirt
Sticking with the classics, I’ve been having a silky moment recently. Perhaps it’s a coming of age thing? Maybe we’re all just all becoming our mothers. If that involves Nili Lotan I’m easily sold. A black crepe de chine shirt speaks volumes, classic ones. Wear half tucked with white linen trousers and flip flops or full tucked with denim and a chic belt.
Style note:
An elevated outfit for running errands. A silk black shirt, a leg extension in denim form, lightweight trench, loafers and ‘essential’ accessories. Classic, clean, crisp, Charvet. A long term sock and shoe lover, now potentially a shirt lover? I visited the store in Paris back in February and vicariously tried on shirts through my fiancé. There is a reason they’ve been around since, the same reason why all of the stylists and fashion people alike, flock there like it’s the mother hive.
Style Note:
A Classic White Shirt worn unbuttoned over a simple t, paired with a satin maxi skirt and flip flops. A clutch in one hand, onyx bangle hanging off the other. A Wild Card. The above image lives in my mind and perfectly encapsulates my summer energy. Relaxed, unbothered and tartan’d. I was previously under the illusion this was completely sold out but alas, have some sizes on me.
Style Note:
This brand is redefining the shirt game, one Italian thread at a time. Founded by the chicest mother-daughter duo, think classic shirts, new tricks. I’ve added a double entry for this one, one being the ‘Lief’ with impossibly chic long cuffs. The other being the Monroe shirt - this bohemian style collar is the only silhouette I want to wear this summer, paired with a statement necklace - naturally.
This shirt is a repeat offender in my wardrobe, so simple yet it’s the one I find myself turning to again and again. The Donni Linen Relaxed Shirt is the perfect weight, beautifully oversized and goes with everything.
For the evenings or days when you want to feel amazing. I feel like 25 hit and now my life is little tricks and adjustments to feel sexier.
Style Note:
YSL Shirt, Tailored Trousers and an Oversized Leather. Throw on some glasses, heels and a chic carry-everything bag. This shirt feels like my very Row hidden secret. I had never come across it until one afternoon in West London a chic friend suddenly unveiled this 70s esque silk dream piece. I managed to snag one on Vestiaire so keep your eyes peeled. More sizes are available online for ease of the chase. It runs large, be warned. I’m currently writing this wearing it tucked into these jeans with a simple belt and ballet flats. It hits, somewhere along the lines of Anita Pallenberg and The Olsen Twins.
Really blurring the lines between a shirt and a blouse, but in the club. Rohé have become synonymous for their mandarin inspired jackets and shirts, the result? An effortless piece that drapes beautifully over everyone. I missed my chance with the wool jacket that seemingly swept across the streets of London, now I give you the summer version. Wear with black tailoring and a simple heel for a casual dinner or over a tank and denim for a day running errands.
Style Note:
Casual date night, with a silk twill blouse, black tailoring and white simple tank. Opt for loafers, a Savette bag and silver jewellery.
Next up, how to wear a tank top and still look impossibly chic.
Love all of these looks! On a side note , which coffee shop is that pic of you taken in ? Is it in London ?
