Olsen Twin Layering Diaries
The Olsen approach to layering, with some of Jenni Kayne's finest pieces.
February really feels like the thick of Winter for me personally, my skin has reached peak dryness (and paleness) and it feels like day 1 billion of wearing a coat and turtleneck combination. Feeling elevated and chic whilst staying warm is a lot harder than it sounds, but it’s all in the layering. This is when we look to the Olsen twins for valuable lessons in such matters….

The Cherry on top of Layering, the Winter Coat.
This time of year, the coat is basically the entire outfit. In true Olsen fashion, the Olivia coat provides us with a gorgeous neutral toned outer layer. This shearling coat also sends me into overdrive.
However, if you too are feeling the strain of wearing your coat for the thousandth time then look to statement accessories or the introduction of textures/metals to make the coat look feel fresh and new. I’m having a love affair with this necklace over my coat right now. A great scarf will also go very far.
The Essential Piece of the Puzzle, a Great Knit
An essential layering component and arguably where Jenni Kayne excels the most. A great cashmere knit is the bedrock of my winter wardrobe. Go Olsen style and size up a couple of sizes in this Cable Nell Turtleneck for an oversized, relaxed look.
It’s also interesting to note, this is a vintage Olsen picture yet they still predicted the scarf/shirt tied around the waist over trouser combo before it jumped onto the 2025 scene (and waists).
This image is seared into my brain, looking at it for a second I almost remember what it’s like to feel the sun on my bare toes. For a Winter appropriate version of this look, the Cashmere Stevie Polo is the perfect option.
See it styled below.
One of my favourite types of knit, and arguably the most flattering. I love a button up knit styled with a button undone, t-shirt poking out and tucked into denim with a simple belt and loafers.
The Outfit Lifter, a Chic Shoe
Remind me what we all wore pre loafers? I feel like a great loafer makes you instantly feel more put together, these Dylan leather loafers are the Olsen coded chic antidote to a bundled up winter outfit.
The Simple Luxury, Cashmere Socks.
Whether you’re wearing with loafers, trainers or going peak Olsen, with open toes with sandals. Cashmere socks are one of the greatest luxuries of life. Buying a new pair of socks and waiting all day to put them on that evening is my own personal serotonin boost. I buy a new pair of Jenni Kayne socks every fall and wear them basically 24/7 all winter.
